For many of us, a summer vacation is fast approaching – quite possibly accompanied by the desire to finally switch off from being constantly bombarded with work emails.
It’s also the season for the Internet to be full of all kinds of well-meaning advice for doing a “digital detox”. Bloomberg, for example, has five executives describing how they have learned to “unplug” and really relax. One of these tucked his smartphone under his wiper blades on his windshield (with the display facing away from him!) so that he could switch off from checking his emails at least for the 20 minutes it took to drive to work. Another left his iPhone and BlackBerry locked up in the safe at the hotel reception desk for the entire duration of his vacation. Other alternatives described include throwing your phone overboard while yachting on the ocean and accidentally allowing it to fall out of a back pocket and into the toilet…
Do not disturb
Hopefully you won’t need to resort to any of these options if your employer has subscribed to E-Mail Security cloud service from Retarus and is making good use of the E-Mail Quiet Time feature. With Quiet Time, you can define periods during which employees won’t receive any external emails – for example, during their free time and at weekends. Any emails received during these times are stored temporarily in Retarus data centers and are delivered automatically once the defined period has expired. As business-critical emails may also be sent during one of these “quiet times”, there is also a bypass function for high-priority emails and an emergency button.
