Omnicell relies on Retarus to modernize and secure communication with patients

Omnicell, a provider of medication and medical device supply chain automation technologies, and Retarus combine their expertise to support pharmacies in dispensing medicines. Customers will now receive a pick-up code via Retarus Enterprise SMS Services as soon as their medication is available in the Omnicell pick-up terminal.

Omnicell provides and implements robotic solutions distributing medicines located outside pharmacies. Similar to self-service vending machines or collection lockers, they are used by pharmacies to make prescriptions available to patients, particularly after hours. To this end, the pharmacy simply sends the customer a text message with a unique personal code to let them know their medication is available. This code can be used to unlock the automated system and collect the prescription.

Until now, most pharmacies achieved this by using SMS messaging through traditional SIM cards, integrated into the automated system. However, this technique presented numerous disadvantages. Retarus Enterprise SMS Services allow pharmacies using Omnicell pick-up terminals to benefit from a streamlined communication with their customers. The solution is secure and legally compliant; pharmacies automatically receive a status update for each SMS. Omnicell has deliberately chosen to work with an international provider that guarantees data processing in accordance with local legislation and covers almost all mobile networks worldwide.
