Retarus E-Mail Security does not only safeguard you from virus and spam. Also other types of unwanted messages can be easily filtered out by means of the cloud service – especially when certain email attachments are unwelcome due to security reasons or internal company network specifications. Not long ago, we described in the NewsHub how exceptionally large files, for instance, can be automatically blocked. However, it’s not only the size of a file, but also the type of file that can be used as grounds for filtering. The Retarus Attachment Blocker prevents therefore the receipt of all file attachments which the administrator has classified untrustworthy or which should be precluded from gaining entry to the company infrastructure for other reasons. This could be the case for specific file formats such as EXE, PIF, VBS or BAT.
New functions also block attachments regardless of their file format
In addition to this filtering functionality, the Attachment Blocker included with Retarus E-Mail Security has recently been boosted by several new functions. It is now also possible to filter out attachments which are classified as potentially dangerous or undesirable independently of their file type. Depending on the configuration, the following types of attachments can now be blocked automatically, thereby strengthening IT security:
• Blocking of suspect archives (e.g. nested ZIP files)
• Blocking of unknown MIME types
• Blocking of all password protected files
Individual notifications for administrators
Administrators are also given the option of setting the configuration to ensure that all intercepted emails are redirected as a copy, including attachments, to a specified mailbox. A notification message can also accordingly be sent to the user in such cases.
The new Attachment Blocker functions are available for all Retarus E-Mail Security users with immediate effect. The additional filters are not automatically activated, but can be enabled in the configuration settings.
