According to Gartner, global spending on public cloud services will see an increase of at least 20 percent this year: rising to just under 495 billion dollars. This is up from around 411 billion in 2021. For 2023, the experts are already expecting end user spending of almost 600 billion dollars.

“Cloud is the powerhouse that drives today’s digital organizations”, says Sid Nag, Research Vice President at Gartner Research. He says CIOs are now beyond the era of irrational exuberance of procuring cloud services. Instead, they are being thoughtful in their choice of cloud providers to achieve specific business and technology outcomes in their digital transformation.

Within the public cloud services sector as a whole, the infrastructure as a service (IaaS, up 30.6 percent), desktop as a service (DaaS, up 26.5 percent), and platform as a service (PaaS, up 26.1 percent) segments have seen the highest growth this year. This is partly due to hybrid work—defined as working alternately in the office and at home or elsewhere—as well as the increasing demand for “cloud-native” capabilities. But software as a service (SaaS) remains the largest segment, with spending currently around 177 billion dollars.

“IT leaders who view the cloud as an enabler rather than an end-state will be most successful in their digital transformation”, Gartner’s Nag continues. He believes that organizations who combine the cloud with other adjacent, emerging technologies will fare even better.

The Retarus Enterprise Cloud allows companies to process their office, marketing, and supply chain communication without having to deal with the infrastructure behind it themselves.
