Boosting security and trust: Retarus Transactional Email now includes Message Signing option
Clear, unambiguous identification and verification at first glance thanks to S/MIME certificate
Munich, 13.11.2024 // Retarus has enhanced its Transactional Email Service by adding a unique, innovative function for added security. Message Signing now makes it possible for transactional emails sent directly from business applications to be signed by way of S/MIME certificates. This enables companies to better protect their brands and customers, while more effectively preventing sophisticated cyberattacks, such as spoofing or phishing. In addition, this feature guarantees that the contents of the email have not been altered since it was sent and that the message actually originates from the stated sender. Message Signing is available with immediate effect.
No matter whether they are sending invoices, shipping notifications, or status updates – companies engage in the automated transmission of a multitude of business-critical messages directly from their existing business applications. This is accompanied by a surge in phishing attacks, with criminals using increasingly advanced tactics to get their hands on sensitive data. Companies are no longer able to merely rely on standardized email security protocols alone or simple transport encryption.
Increased trust, integrity, and authenticity
To meet this challenge, Retarus Message Signing has now become the first solution on the market to offer more protection and trust. To this end, every transactional email is digitally signed using S/MIME. In most popular e-mail clients, these messages are then dsiplayed with a blue or green checkmark beside the sender’s name. This makes it easier for email recipients to detect whether a message originates from a trustworthy sender and has not been tampered with. Clicking on the icon also enables less technically adept customers to display additional details regarding the respective certificate, thus giving them the opportunity to further verify an email.
The logical step following SPF, DKIM, and DMARC
SPF, DKIM, and DMARC have already improved the technical authentication of domains significantly. Retarus Message Signing is the next logical step towards even more integrity in e-mail communication. “While the standards employed thus far have assisted in the verification of the sender domain, our new certificate-based signature enhances security by adding verification at the address and sender levels,” explains Sören Schulte, Senior Product Marketing Manager Email at Retarus. “Senders are now able to raise the awareness of their customers to only trust company emails which have been digitally signed. Another positive side effect is that trusted emails are clearly highlighted in overcrowded inboxes.”
