Retarus Press Release

Retarus’ commitment to a data-sovereign Europe

Day-1 member of the European cloud initiative GAIA-X AISBL

Reading, 01/04/2021 // As a Day-1 member of the international non-profit organization GAIA-X AISBL[1], Retarus is representing the communication, data security, and EU data protection interests of its European customers in the global GAIA-X cloud initiative. The communications platform provider also aims to accelerate digitalization across Europe and establish partnerships with other providers who share Retarus’ commitment to advancing data protection standards. Retarus is a major contributor to the “OWP Interconnection and Network” and “Open Work Package Self Description” working groups.

Stefan Rath, President retarus (North America) Inc.

The European GAIA-X cloud project’s goal is the safeguarding of Europe’s independence and capacity for innovation by ensuring its digital sovereignty. Retarus brings this project decades of expertise and experience in the modernization and digitalization of business communication and processes. Retarus is dedicated to ensuring that competitive cloud technologies which allow data to be processed securely and responsibly are developed in Europe, independent from single cloud providers and free from the economic and political interests of individual countries.

As a member of GAIA-X AISBL, Retarus is committed to upholding the core European values of transparency, security, and respect for data laws and privacy. In addition, Retarus is actively engaged in reducing monopolies held by international tech corporations and clearing technological hurdles for small and medium-sized companies, such as in data migration.

“The CJEU’s ruling on ‘Privacy Shield’ has once again shown, just how crucial it is to implement the European data protection standards both strictly and consistently. For us, our top priority is always processing our customers’ business-critical data in compliance with regulations. Sensitive data is granted special protection and always needs to be available, tamper-proof, and confidential,” says Martin Hager, CEO and founder of Retarus. “Whether it’s banking, healthcare, the industrial sector, or public administration, Retarus’ customers have always benefited from our flexibly deployable cloud services, our decades of experience in transporting sensitive data, and the secure, reliable processing of data in our own data centers. We have made it our mission to promote technical innovation and are proud to bring our expertise into the groundbreaking Gaia-X project.”
